Tour the 1840-built royal Serena Khaplu Palace and the historic 14th-century wood-carved Chaqchan Mosque. Continue along the roaring Shyok River, turning north into the dramatic canyon of the Hushe River. Pass picturesque villages: Machulo (famous for its panoramic K2 viewpoint), Saling, and Talis. Arrive at Hushe village (3,050m), nestled beneath the colossal snow walls of Masherbrum. Check in to the comfortable community-run Refugio Hushe Hotel or scenic garden camp. Enjoy an evening walk through the village lanes as golden alpenglow illuminates Masherbrum's summit. Traditional Balti dinner of buckwheat pancakes and apricot soup.
• Day 2: Day Hike to Masherbrum Base Camp or Shaieshcho Pastures: Early morning departure on foot up the Masherbrum River valley. Follow the gentle trail winding through fragrant wild rose bushes and subalpine willow groves. Ascend to the lush summer grazing pastures of Shaieshcho (3,350m), located at the scenic confluence of the Gondogoro and Charakusa rivers. Gaze up at the sheer granite walls of the surrounding peaks. More energetic hikers can continue 2 hours further along the moraine to the high amphitheater of Masherbrum Base Camp (4,200m) to touch the lower glaciers. • Day 3: Excursion toward Charakusa Glacier & Return to Khaplu / Skardu: Morning nature walk along the rushing Hushe River, photographing local Balti women weaving wool blankets on traditional wooden looms. Board private 4x4 vehicles for the return drive down the valley, stopping at the Machulo viewpoint for a panoramic morning glimpse of K2 and Broad Peak rising in the far distance. Return to Khaplu for lunch, continuing onward to Skardu by late afternoon.
