4-Day Ghizer Valley & Phander Explorer Itinerary

Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the Land of Lakes with this four-day scenic roadmap:

• Day 1: Gilgit to Phander via Gahkuch & Khalti Lake: Depart Gilgit westward along the scenic Gilgit-Shandur Highway. Pass through the fertile fruit orchards of Punial, stopping at Gahkuch for refreshments. Continue to Gupis to marvel at the deep emerald waters of Khalti Lake, enjoying freshly grilled trout at a lakeside pavilion. Reach Phander Valley by late afternoon, checking into the perched PTDC Motel overlooking the meandering river.
• Day 2: Phander Lake Nature Walk & Trout Angling: Spend a tranquil morning walking the perimeter of Phander Lake, admiring the mirror-like reflections of surrounding snow-dusted peaks in its crystal-clear water. Rent local angling gear and spend the afternoon fly-fishing for wild brown trout with a local guide, or stroll through the welcoming stone hamlets of Phander village.
• Day 3: Day Trip to Shandur Pass (Roof of the World): Take an adventurous 4WD drive up the switchbacks from Phander toward the 3,700m alpine tableland of Shandur Pass. Stand on the historic polo arena where Gilgit and Chitral face off in annual rivalry. Walk along the windswept shores of Shandur Lake, taking in vistas of the Hindu Kush and Karakoram convergence before returning to Phander.
• Day 4: Yasin Valley Historical Heritage & Return: On the return journey, take a detour up the dramatic canyon of Yasin Valley. Visit the ancient stone defenses of Muduri Fort and learn about the historic Darkut Pass trade route connecting to the Afghan Wakhan Corridor. Return along the river highway to Gilgit.
